5. The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren (1995)
I had been steeped in tradition most of my ministry, and highly critical of any new thinking regarding church life. I read this book with GREAT skepticism but found it Biblical, missional, and practical; and it challenged my traditional forms of faith. It played a key role in changing my philosophy and practice of church life. The church exists for much more that having good church services. I got that from this book. I give an annual “State of the Church” address once each year to talk about our purpose and how we are doing. I got that concept from this book. I’m thankful!
