My First Bible

100 Days to 50: Day 90 – The Most Influential Books in My Life

1. My First Bible

It’s a King James Version, Scofield Reference Edition. It was a gift from mom and dad at Christmas 1972. I was 8 years old. It was the first Bible I read through completely. I was reading it on August 24, 1983 when God called me into pastoral ministry. I preached my first sermon from it, September 4, 1983. I preached my first funeral from it. I preached from it on my first mission trip in Liberia, West Africa in November 1987. From it, I preached my first sermon at Mt. Zion Church, Jonesboro, GA and at Midway Church.

Anytime my spiritual life has gotten stale, a few minutes in it has seemed to help. I consider it one of my greatest tangible treasures in this world, as it has connected me to the next. I’m thankful!

A great online version of the bible can be found here!
